Contemporary Black Fiberglass Pool with Granite Hardscape & Black Perimeter Fence

Location: Rabeau, Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot
Scope: Black fiberglass pool, black granite paver terrace, black architectural fence
Design Intent: Modern, monochromatic backyard with clean lines and zero visual clutter
This Rabeau project was designed around one principle: contrast through restraint.
A fully blacked-out pool environment requires precision. Any uneven line, elevation error, or misalignment becomes immediately visible against dark materials.
The scope included:
Installation of a black fiberglass in-ground pool
Full black granite paver terrace
Black perimeter safety fence
Elevation correction and drainage integration
Structural base preparation
This was a controlled, detail-driven build — not a decorative refresh.
Black Fiberglass Pool Installation
The black fiberglass shell creates a reflective, mirror-like water surface, producing depth and architectural drama.
Technical considerations included:
Precision excavation to exact depth tolerances
Compacted stone base to eliminate shell movement
Controlled backfill in lifts
Plumbing pressure verification before final compaction
Elevation alignment with finished paver height
Dark pools amplify light reflection. If elevations are off, it shows immediately. Pool-to-deck transitions were calibrated to avoid uneven waterlines or coping inconsistencies.
Black Granite Paver Terrace
The terrace was constructed using black granite pavers selected for:
Density and compressive strength
Minimal color variation
Long-term resistance to salt and freeze-thaw cycles
Modern, architectural finish
Installation included:
Engineered granular base depth
2% slope away from pool basin
Edge restraint anchoring
Joint stabilization for lateral lock
Granite requires tight leveling tolerances. Any lippage is highly visible on dark stone. Surface consistency was prioritized during final screed and placement.

Black Architectural Fence
The black perimeter fence was installed to meet Quebec pool safety regulations while maintaining the minimalist aesthetic.
Key execution points:
Structural post anchoring
Precise panel alignment
Code-compliant gate hardware
Corrosion-resistant finish
The fence integrates visually into the design rather than interrupting it.
Dark material palettes are unforgiving.
Settlement, poor grading, or inconsistent alignment immediately compromise the design.
This backyard was executed with:
Verified compaction at every lift
Controlled drainage planning
Elevation benchmarking prior to final hardscape
Tight installation tolerances
The objective was permanence and architectural cohesion — not trend-based aesthetics.

The final result delivers:
A reflective black pool with depth and presence
A structurally stable granite terrace
Clean, uninterrupted sightlines
A cohesive monochromatic backyard environment
On Rabeau in NDIP, the standard was simple:
Modern. Precise. Engineered to last.
